Customer service advocate group inaugurated
A customer service advocate group for the tourism and hospitality industry has been inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Ms Dzifah Gomashie, in Accra.
The national group, known as Service Excellence Ambassadors Foundation (SEAF), has the objective of addressing service delivery challenges in the tourism and hospitality industry.
It has a membership of 100 people and will, among other activities, create the needed awareness regarding the strategic role excellent customer service delivery plays in tourism.
The foundation also plans to carry out public education and help to train and develop the skills of stakeholders in the sector.
Need for training
Addressing participants at the launch in Accra, Ms Gomashie underscored the need for the establishment of a training institute which would focus solely on customer service training, especially for those in the hospitality industry.
She cited the example of countries such as Cape Verde, which had a special training institute on customer service, adding that it served as a good example for Ghana to emulate.
To that end, Ms Gomashie said the ministry was working hard to establish an institution to that effect.
She commended the Executive Director of the SEAF, Mr Caleb Kofie, for the initiative and pledged the ministry’s support for it.
Collaboration
The President of the Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF), Mr David Anim, said for the tourism industry in the country to enjoy continuous success, the sector needed the collaboration of all stakeholders and industry players.
For his part, Mr Kofie appealed to the media to use their platform to promote activities in the tourism industry since it provided a lot of revenue for the country.
