Customs officers charged to enhance revenue collection

The acting Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr Wallace Akondor, has urged staff of the division to take advantage of the transformation taking place there to enhance revenue collection.

He said the nation was facing challenging times, while the government and the public expected more revenue for development, adding, “It is, therefore, our duty to work hard to achieve our target for the year.”

Mr Akondor was addressing the passing-out parade of 109 recruits made up of 80 males and 29 females at the Customs Academy at Agotime-Kpetoe in the Agotime-Ziope District in the Volta Region.

The batch was offered 18 months’ training in basic paramilitary, physical training, weapon handling and customs training.

Training timely

Mr Akondor noted that the batch was graduating at a time when a lot of changes were taking place in the GRA to improve revenue mobilisation.

He said the training they received was appropriate and timely and should, therefore, put them in the right mental and physical frame to work diligently for the GRA.

Charge

Mr Akondor asked them to take up challenges that would bring about creativity, innovation and change in the GRA.
He reminded them that they had been appointed into a distinguished career and, therefore, excellence should be their hallmark.
Acknowledging that many temptations would come their way, Mr Akondor asked that they exhibit qualities such as endurance, confidence, discipline, patriotism and loyalty that had been inculcated in them during the training.
