Death of Stephen Andoh-Kwofie: A great loss to the Ghana Police Service

The late Mr Stephen Andoh-Kwofie, Commissioner of Police, was born on December 25, 1958, at Elmina in the Central Region. He attended Swedru School of Business from 1973 to 1978, Labone Secondary School from 1978 to 1980 and University of Ghana from 1981 to 1984.

He is a Chartered Accountant and holds Master’s in Business Administration. He is a member, Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM), Chartered Institute of Taxation (MCIT) and member, Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS).

The late Commissioner was commissioned into the Officer Corps of the Ghana Police Service as Deputy Superintendent of Police on April 1, 1991, and rose through the ranks as follows: 

* Superintendent of Police on March 13, 1992

* Chief Superintendent of Police on January 1, 1998 

* Assistant Commissioner of Police on April 1l, 2002 

* Deputy Commissioner of Police on January 1, 2006 

* Commissioner of Police on October 18, 2012, the rank he held until his untimely death on  January 9, 2015.

 The late Commissioner of Police, in his career as a policeman, served in several capacities and in various stations across the country including:

* Finance/Headquarters/Accra from 01/04/1991 to 14/08/2002

* 2 I/C Police College/Accra from 15/08/2002 to 02/09/2004

* KAIPTC/Accra from 03/09/2004 to 19/01/2005

* In-Charge Service Workshop/Accra from 20/01/2005 to 30/01/2005

* Regional Commander/VR from 31/01/2005 to 15/05/2005

* Paymaster-General/Accra from 16/05/2005 to 19/05/2005

* Regional Commander/ER from 20/05/2009 to 27/11/2011

* Regional Commander/CR from 28/11/2011 to 21/10/2013

* Director-General/Welfare/Accra from 22/10/2013 to 08/01/2015

The late Mr Andoh-Kwofie was a disciplinarian, very amiable and approachable. He was very gentle and related very well with his superiors, colleagues, subordinates as well as the general public. His leadership qualities were exemplary. He left behind a landmark which has since served as an inspiration and legacy to policemen/women who cherish discipline and fairness in their chosen profession.

By his death, the Police Administration and the whole nation have lost a dedicated and illustrious son.

Words are of little material comfort and cannot soften the grief which his death has inflicted on his family, the Service, colleagues and friends.
