Don’t defame yourself, the church with corruption - Rev. Awotwi Pratt cautions

The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Reverend Titus Kofi Awotwi Pratt, has advised members of the church not to indulge in any form of corrupt practices that will bring disgrace to themselves, their families and the church.

He said the recent accusations of church leaders involved in financial misconduct were not encouraging and urged Christians to abstain from such ungodly behaviours.
“We are all aware of the accusations and counter-accusations of people in authority of financial malfeasance all over the country.

“Christians, and for that matter members of the Methodist Church Ghana, should not be part of such practice because it is tantamount to greed and selfishness. Methodists are disciplined and we must exhibit that everywhere we find ourselves,” he added.

Dedication

The presiding bishop further urged that “Christians must practise the good deeds the Bible preaches and stay away from criminal activities in society in order not to bring shame onto themselves and Christendom”.

“People appointed to serve should always exhibit good examples by being truthful, patriotic and accountable,” he stated.

Most Rev. Awotwi Pratt was speaking at the dedication of the expanded church building of the Ebenezer Methodist Cathedral last Saturday at Madina, near Accra.

The more spacious building will now be able to accommodate the growing congregation. The expansion works cost $3 million.

Sermon

Delivering a sermon on the theme: “Go and Do Likewise” and quoting from Luke 10:37 and Matthew 5, Most Rev. Awotwi Pratt said the dedication of the church could only be complete if its members fully dedicated their lives to serving Christ and be examples to society.

“To make the Ebenezer Methodist Cathedral attractive and to win souls for Christ depends to a large extent on how the members conduct themselves,” he emphasised.

Appreciation

The Superintendent Minister in charge of the Madina Circuit, Very Rev. John Hammond, was grateful to members of the church and people who supported the project in diverse ways.

“Christian friends, what you see now is a combination of efforts by the Projects Implementation Committee, Brushwell Contractors and Mrs Esther Agyapong,” he said.
