He said the provision of basic things such as shelter, sanitation, food, health care and education must be given the needed attention to help address poverty and bring hope to millions of disadvantaged people.

The President was speaking at a forum in Davos, Switzerland, yesterday to introduce the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) eminent advocates of which he and Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg are co-chairs.

The SDG forum took place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Importance of advocacy group
President Mahama said the formation and launch of the advocacy group was so important, as it sought to address some of the basic challenges facing the peoples of the world.

The SDGs, he said, were a path to bring hope to the world, especially the less-privileged peoples.

"We do not have the luxury of time to fix the broken world," he added.

President Mahama said the SDGs must be a plan that would change the world for the better.

Appointment
The UN earlier this week appointed President Mahama and the Norwegian Prime Minister as co-chairs of a group of 16 SDG eminent advocates to support the Secretary-General in his efforts to generate momentum and commitment to achieving the SDGs by 2030.
