Driver apprentice assaults mother
A-37-year-old apprentice driver who assaulted her mother and threatened to kill her has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.

Henry Batsa, who was charged with offensive conduct, assault and threat of death, pleaded guilty with explanation and was fined GH¢300.00 or in default serve 12 months imprisonment.
Batsa could, however, not pay the fine and had been sent to the Akuse prison to begin his sentence.
The facts of the case as presented to the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court by the prosecutor, ASP Richmond Akwasi Yeboah, presided over by Mr Frank Yao Gbeddy, were that Caroline Batsa is a 63-year- old widow residing at Atua, a suburb of Odumase-Krobo in her late husband’s house and her son, Henry Batsa, lived in the same house with her.
He said the accused person, who was a driver’s apprentice, was fond of misbehaving towards the mother.
The prosecutor said Caroline alleged that on Sunday, April 10 ,2016, at about 12:00 noon, she was at home when she saw the Batsa blocking the road in front of their house and in the process he encroached on a neighbours land with the excuse that he was trying to check erosion.
ASP Yeboah said when Caroline drew Batsa’s attention that what he was doing was wrong, he became offended and starting raining insults on her.
He said on the same day Batsa took the complainant’s charcoal, sold it, used the proceed on alcohol and when the mother complained, he again became offended and insulted her.

ASP Yeboah said her mother, who could not contain Batsa’s behaviour, reported him to her brother.
The prosecutor said Caroline alleged that she was at home on April 13 at about 11:00 am when Batsa, after he had received a call from his uncle, assaulted her and threatened that he was going to hit her head with a stick until she died.
He said the case was reported to the police the same day and Batsa was arrested by the Odumase Krobo police.
