Police must treat offenders of the law equally — Domeabra Chief

The Chief of Domeabra, Nana Kusi Oboadum, has charged the Ghana Police Service to treat every offender of the law equally and not to be partial in the discharge of their duties.

He said since the law was no respecter of persons, the police should ensure that anyone who offended the law was dealt with accordingly without fear or favour.

Nana Oboadum made the call when he donated two vehicles and three motorbikes to the Domeabra District Police Command at Domeabra in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality yesterday.

No discrimination

He said even if any of his sub-chiefs was found wanting, “deal with him as the law requires you to and do not look at his social status”.

He said although it was the community that built the police station, “it now belongs to the government and we have no control over it again”.

He said since the opening of the police station in the community, there had been peace and tranquillity and people have been going about their businesses without any hindrance.

According to him, the sense of insecurity which existed was no more and attributed that to the presence of the police station in the township.

The donation was to enable the police to extend their patrols to adjoining communities and also be in a position to respond on time to distress calls.

He was of the hope that the police would continue to improve on the security in the area and also maintain the vehicles and the bikes.

Police

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Osei Kwaku Ampofo Duku, who received the vehicles and motorbikes on behalf of the police, expressed gratitude to the chief and his elders for the gesture and said it would go a long way to assist the police in the performance of their duties.

He said the service would still need the assistance of people in combating crime through information on activities of criminals.

The ACP said since the criminals also lived   in the community, they would know them better than the police and said the police would greatly appreciate it if people would volunteer information that would enable them to clamp down on criminal activities in the region.

ACP Ampofo-Duku commended Nana Oboadum for his continuous assistance to the police since he assumed the throne.
