Lartey was charged with careless, inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm.

He pleaded guilty on both counts when he appeared before the court, presided over by Mr Alexander Owerae, and was fined GH₵240 and 14 days in prison.

Lartey was able to pay his fine on July 4, 2016.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecutor, Inspector Peter Agbeli, were that on February 6, 2016, Lartey was driving a Sprinter bus with 23 passengers from Accra to Assin Fosu.

The prosecutor said when Lartey got to Gomoa Bewadzi on the Winneba-Cape Coast high way, he lost control of the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to fall into a ditch.

Inspector Lartey said as a result, the vehicle was damaged while the passengers sustained various degrees of injuries.

According to him, the passengers were rushed to the Apam Government Hospital where they were treated and discharged.
