Driver’s mate fined for stealing

An 18-year-old driver’s mate has been fined GH¢ 1,000 for stealing.

Francis Amoah pleaded guilty when he appeared before the Amasaman District Court A and was convicted accordingly. 

However, if Amoah fails to pay the fine he will serve six months in prison. 

According to  the Prosecutor, Sergeant Salifu Nashiru, the complainant, Juliana Pentil, is a cleaner who resides at Chantan while Amoah resides at Omanjor,  Accra. 

On March 11, 2015 at about 4:10 a.m., Pentil was on her way  to work and  on reaching a spot, Amoah attacked her, snatched her handbag and took to his heels. 

The prosecutor said Solomon Amakye, who was a witness in the case, went to the aid of Pentil and together, they reported the case to the police.

Amoah was later apprehended and when a search was conducted at his hideout, a bag containing a a mobile phone, a piece of cloth and an amount of GH¢ 24 were retrieved.
