ECG workers reject privatisation
Workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) demonstrating at the Akyem Oda District office on Wednesday against the privatisation of the company by the government.
Clad in red attire, the placard bearing demonstrators, who sang, drummed and danced, called on the government to pay the ECG the huge debt it owed the company to enable it to perform its functions efficiently to the satisfaction of all Ghanaians.
Mr. Awonu Yeboah, who read a press release on behalf of the ECG employees, urged the government to allow the company a period of about three years to try the strategic Business Unit (SBU) concept that had been commenced in the Ashanti Region for proper appraisal to be done after the end of the pilot.
He also implored the government to allow the ECG to raise funds from local sources either through the stock exchange or pension funds to invest in the energy sector.
