Graphic Online's Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Donald Ato Dapatem reported that the group, numbering about 100, dressed in red and black attire, walked from the Cultural Centre in Bantama through Pampaso, Prisons Roundabout, Melcom Road, Aseda House, Asafo interchange, Labour Roundabout and headed towards the Abbeys Park at Ashanti New Town.

They explained they were demonstrating against the high cost of living, corruption, the power outages currently being experienced in the country, the collapse of businesses and the hike in fuel prices.

The demonstration dubbed “Mmrewa re su”, to wit, “The aged are crying”, took many onlookers by surprise as it was deemed unprecedented in Ghana’s democracy with regards to demonstrations.

They threatened to strip naked and march to Flagstaff House in Accra if the harsh economic conditions remained the same.

Dapatem reported that when the group got to the Labour Roundabout, the climbing became a herculean task for the old ladies. They moved few steps and stopped, moved and stopped and requested for water before continuing the march.
