Ellembelle MP sets up free Food Bank in aid of vulnerable
The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah has expressed the need to ensure that the aged and vulnerable in society remain the prime focus of society and leaders to ensure parity for all.
Consequently, the MP has built a free Food Bank of Ellembelle (FBE), which he says is in fulfillment of his promise to the people of the community in support of the less privileged.
AYA Centre
The MP has already built a care facility for the elderly, known as the AYA Community Centre (ACC), which focuses on promoting the healthcare and well-being of the aged senior citizens in the district and beyond.
He said as a “A society, we owe a duty of care to ensure that the aged especially those with probable underlining conditions are not left to fend for themselves – this is the time we need to show them that we care.”
The Food Bank
The food bank, built inside the elderly care facility at Ampain in the district, has a huge storage capacity for foodstuff with a delivery van to transport the aggregated food to the aged in the communities in order to save them the travel inconveniences.
The facility and its content, the MP said, would be managed by religious and traditional leaders in the district who would ensure identification and distribution of food items to the needy in the district and beyond.
He said the facility was timely, especially in the face of Covid-19, which he said has brought a lot of hardship to the people in the communities, region, nation and the entire world. “Therefore, we can keep the bank running by putting in the little excess we have today for those who do not have now.”
Privileged in society
He said while the privileged in society have the pleasure of essentials for living, which provide them extra comfort, the vulnerable are not able to afford the basic life necessities, saying “It’s our duty to ensure their shelter to live in, food to eat, and clothes and basic healthcare.”
Nonpartisan initiative
“I must say that the Food Bank is not and should not be seen as a political creation but as our own creation aimed at supporting our own and must be seen as such. Therefore, the food bank is opened to receive donations from the general public”, he said.
He said food from donors would be distributed among the category of people identified by the managers – the aged and other vulnerable groups in society in the district and every coroner.
Commendation
The District Chief Executive of Ellembelle, Mr Kwesi Bonzo applauded the MP for the important initiative which would help the district and made a contribution of GH¢1,000 to stock more food.
For his part, the Chief of Ampain Nana Nyameke Fuflue commended the MP for his continuous support for his people and assured him of prudent and nonpartisan management of the food bank.
“As a family, I challenge all Nzemas especially those who have to contribute food into the bank and those who need it to freely patronize without political colours because it is for the people,” he said.
