Family appeals for $152,000 to save 11-month old daughter
The family of an 11-month- old baby, Berak Adwoa Boateng Annoh , has appealed to individuals, philanthropists and benevolent organisations to help her financially, to undergo Cardiothoracic Surgery which will cost US $ 151,865.00.
In a hospital report presented by the parents from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), the Consultant Paediatric and Congenital Cardiologist, Dr Naa Yaa Yao, stated that the disease required cardiothoracic surgical management which was not available at the KBTH.
She said the parents needed to raise the said amount to enable them to seek treatment for the child at the Boston Children’s Hospital in the United States of America.
Dr Yao said the surgery would include services such as Cardiac Catheterisation and Cardiac surgery.
Devastated parents
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the parents of the child, Mr Emmanuel and Mrs Eunis Boateng Annoh, said they were devastated when they were told at their daughter’s birth that she had a life-threatening heart defect requiring immediate heart surgery.
Mrs Boateng Annoh explained that Berak was diagnosed of a congenital heart disease, also known as “hole in heart” when she was 7 months old.
“We humbly plead with benevolent organisations and individuals to come to the aid of Baby Berak to go through the surgery to ensure that she grows up to contribute her quota to the country,” she said.
