A policeman, Constable David Delali Osae, who was the fifth accused person was acquitted and discharged by the court.

Facts of the case

Prosecuting, an Assistant State Attorney, Mr D. Atulisey, said on June 30, 2009 at 9.30a.m., Constable Osae spotted a bullion van with a policeman on board on the Tema Motorway and enquired where they were going to.

Mr Atulisey said the policeman told Constable Osae that they were heading to the Mepe Rural Bank.

Constable Osae went back and informed the robbers that a bullion van had left for Mepe and that they should plan to rob the bank.

On July 3, 2009, at about 7:a.m Constable Osae went to the Community One Police Station in Tema and booked an AK 47 rifle and met his accomplices at the Tema Motorway Roundabout.

The robbers came along with two AK 47 rifles, two pistols and a pump action gun and handed them to Constable Osae, who kept them in his car.

He then drove the gang to Sege, from where they proceeded to Mepe after Constable Osae had given them the weapons.

They then attacked the workers of the Mepe Bank, broke into the strong room, took Gh¢13,061 and bolted.

The gang eventually converged at Sege, where Constable Osae was waiting for them, and handed over the money and the weapons to him for him to drive them to the Tema Motorway Roundabout, where they shared the booty.
