Ga Central Assembly to embark on demolition exercise
The Ga Central Municipal Assembly (GCMA) has hinted of a possible demolition of buildings and structures without permits and those on watercourses in the area.
According to the assembly, close to 90 per cent of the buildings did not have permits, while a number of them were also on waterways, a situation that had led to poor drainage system in the municipality.
It said the exercise, which was likely to begin by the close of the year, was part of measures to mitigate the annual floods in the area.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the GCMA, Mr Aristo Aryee, made this known at a regional town hall meeting in Accra last Monday.
The meeting was used to assess the level of development in the municipality and also offered stakeholders and residents the opportunity to ask questions and put forward their grievances for redress.
Mr Aryee indicated that the assembly, together with the Hydrological Services Department (HSD), had finished its report
