Gender Ministry, working committee meet on draft AAL

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has organised a final validation meeting with the national working committee for the drafting of Affirmative Action Legislation (AAL).

Speaking at the event in Accra on Friday, the sector minister, Nana Oye Lithur, explained that after undergoing the needed amendments and review by the technical committee and key gender experts of the ministry, the bill would be presented to Cabinet and subsequently to Parliament.

She also said when passed, the bill would help rectify discrimination on the basis of sex by addressing gender imbalances in various spheres and provide an opportunity to groups that were under-represented to overcome all forms of discrimination.

According to the minister, the bill would also ensure a minimum of 40 per cent representation of women in public services, judiciary, security services, political parties and social services. She indicate
