They include 11 desktop system units and monitors, two laptop computers, 13 external hard drives, 14 modems, 14 pen drives, one computer desk, 14 filing cabinets, one LCD projector and a printer.

The equipment are to be distributed to health facilities under the GAF HIV/AIDS Control Programme.

Presentation

At a ceremony at which the consignment was handed over in Accra yesterday, the Country Director of Jhpiego Ghana, Ms Chantelle Allen, said the equipment were donated in appreciation of the efforts of the programme officials at improving HIV/AIDs care and treatment in military health facilities nationwide.

She said the equipment was, therefore, to be used to enhance CAF’s routine health information system in aid of future decision making.

The Director-General of GAF Medical Services, Colonel Mahama Alhassan, commended the donors and said the data-keeping equipment would help improve the operations of the GAF HIV/AIDS Control Programme.

Baseline assessment

Jhpiego Ghana, in 2013, conducted a baseline assessment of HIV care and treatment services using the Standards-Based Management and Recognition tool, a practical management approach to improving performance and quality healthcare services in its attempt to facilitate high quality HIV/ AIDS healthcare delivery services.

Ms Allen said a follow-up assessment made this year established that the (GAF) HIV/ AIDS Programme had made tremendous strides, with over 80 per cent improvement.

The United States (US) Department of Defence funded the equipment under the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) being implemented by Jhpiego Ghana.

The equipment was provided to contribute to the GAF’s effort to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDs on  GAF beneficiaries especially.
