Ablekuma North Assembly to prosecute non-compliant shop owners

The Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly will begin to prosecute shop owners who refuse to participate in  the monthly National Sanitation Day (NSD) exercise, the Municipal Chief Executive  (MCE)  of the area, Adamu Musa Kalamu, has said.

He said despite prior notices to shop owners in the municipality to take part  in the monthly clean up exercise, some failed to adhere to the directives.

Speaking during a clean-up exercise in the municipality last Saturday, Mr Kalamu stated that the assembly would take legal action against those who failed to comply.

Residents

The exercise saw the MCE leading residents and staff of the assembly to desilt choked gutters, especially at the Dansoman and Darkuman junction stretch on the Odorkor -Kaneshie Highway ( Dr Busia Highway) to address the persistent flooding and drainage issues in the area.

In an interaction with the media during the exercise, Mr Kalamu who was joined by the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, in the exercise, said it would help bring  relief to residents who had suffered from floods for far too long.

He urged residents to make cleanliness a daily habit and not wait for government-led exercises before cleaning their surroundings.

Duty

"Sanitation is everyone’s duty. When we keep our communities clean, we prevent flooding, improve our health and make Ablekuma North a better place to live,” the MCE stated.

The Head of the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit , Ruby E. Banini, also reiterated the need for residents to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean always.

She emphasised that environmental cleanliness was a shared responsibility, and as such required the active participation of all.
