Ahafo group commends Agric minister

The Ahafo Development Association, a social group in the Ahafo Region, has commended the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, for his performance since assuming office.

They said not only has Mr Opoku distinguished himself in his new portfolio, but he continuously spearheaded the effective implementation of the numerous agricultural policies and programmes of the government to safeguard the nation’s agricultural sector.

“We are greatly impressed with his performance because he has discharged his mandate with diligence and commitment towards the growth and development of the sector,” they indicated.

Interview

The association commended Mr Opoku, who is also the Member of Parliament for Asunafo South in the Ahafo Region, in an interview with the Daily Graphic in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking on the association’s behalf, its spokesperson, Prince Kofi Diawuo, said that although many individuals had occupied the same position in the past, it was evident that Mr Opoku’s knowledge and passion for the job surpassed all.

He stated that since he assumed office, the minister has continued to champion many agricultural policies and interventions promised by the Mahama-Opoku-Agyemang administration to shore up food production and achieve food security.

He mentioned the launch of the Feed Ghana Programme, Vegetable Development Project, Nkoko Nketenkete, construction of poultry processing factory at Bechem, school farms initiative, among others, as some of his achievements.

He added that Mr Opoku’s resolve to see to the successful implementation of the many agricultural initiatives was exceptional, saying, “We are optimistic that he will provide the required leadership and guidance to achieve the desired results”.

Investment

He added that under the Minister of Food and Agriculture’s watch, the government had attracted a number of foreign investments, including the construction and rehabilitation of dams in northern Ghana, a $100million investment to drive AI-powered agriculture, among others.

“We wish to applaud him since the ministry is working so hard to ensure that the country is food secure and to make Ghana the bread basket in West Africa and Africa as a whole,” he said.

Referring to President John Dramani Mahama’s recent comment that Mr Opoku would be one of the nation’s best ministers to have manned the sector, he said, “We are very proud of him, and we know that he will work hard to justify the confidence reposed in him by Ghanaians”.

For his part, a Patron of the association, Nana Yaw Adjei, said Mr Opoku was doing a lot in the sector and needed to be applauded to enable him to do more towards the transformation of agriculture in the country.

Similarly, he commended Mr Collins Dauda, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, for his efforts towards the development of the Ahafo Region.
