First Lady meets ministers wives association

The First Lady, Lordina Dramani Mahama, has entreated the church to deepen collaboration with the state to enhance development.

She also stressed the need for the church to invest heavily in the welfare of women and children.

Mrs Mahama made the call at a meeting of the National Executive of the Ministers Wives Association of Assemblies of God, Ghana (MWAAG).

She said doing so would complement the initiatives and interventions by the government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to make life bearable and meaningful for vulnerable groups in society.

Mrs Mahama’s meeting with the leadership of MWAAG Ghana, led by its President, Lady Monica Wengam, was to discuss a number of issues bordering on state, women and children’s welfare.

Also in attendance were the National Vice-President of the association, Rev. Gladys Tito Agyei; the National Secretary, Hannah Birikorang;  the Regional President of Accra East, Rita Awintia and the Regional President of Accra West, Rev. Barbara Ayesu.

Lady Mrs Wengam, who is the wife of the General Superintendent, praised President John Dramani Mahama and his wife for “being loyal and worthy members of the Assemblies of God, Ghana.”

She also commended the first couple for recently providing free medical screening, treatment and medication for retired ministers, their spouses and widows of pastors.

The pastors’ wives presented gifts, including Bibles and church souvenirs to Mrs Mahama.

They also offered prayers for the first couple and the nation.

For her part, Mrs Mahama presented souvenirs from the Lordina Foundation to the association's executive members.
