Free health screening, surgeries conducted in Bono Region

The Sunyani Region of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, a Catholic-friendly society, has organised a free medical screening exercise and surgeries at the Tain District Hospital.

More than 169 people benefited from the exercise, including surgeries on hernia, myomectomies, hysterectomies, ovarian tumours, vesicovaginal fistula and other related gynaecology cases.

The rest included excision, thyroidectomy, hydrocelectomy and haemorrhoids surgeries.

It formed part of the centenary celebration of the society, which would be climaxed in November 2026.

A 13-member medical team from Ho, Accra, Kumasi and Sunyani were supported by other health professionals in the region to undertake the three-day exercise.

Donation

As a prelude to the outreach, the Marshallan Association of the St Michael Catholic Church, Nsakaw/BANDA, on behalf of the Sunyani Region of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, presented medical consumables to the hospital.

It included rolls of gauze, litres of methylated spirit, disposable scalpels, examination gloves, surgical blades and blood transfusion sets.

The presentation was done by the Marshallan Association of the St Michael's Parish, Nsawkaw/Banda, led by an assistant Priest and Chaplain of the association, Bro. Rev. Fr. Alex Awuah and the Noble Lady of Court 37, Wenchi, Sister Grace Boatemaa.

The items were received on behalf of the facility by the Head of Nursing, Welbek Asamoah and the Head of Finance, Francis Kwafo.

A Senior Lecturer of the School of Medicine of the University of Science and Allied Sciences, Dr Adu Appiah-Kubi, said the outreach was to support the vulnerable in society.

He appealed to individuals, organisations and philanthropists to support the medical team financially to enable them to perform more surgeries.

Beneficiaries

Some of the beneficiaries thanked the medical team, the hospital and other stakeholders for investing in their treatment.

A beneficiary, Mary Takyi, who travelled from Kumasi with a thyroidectomy condition, said she went through the surgery without any complications.

Another beneficiary, Job Yaw Mensah, who had excision surgery, said he was glad that the condition he had battled for years had now been repaired.
