
TaTU Registrar enskinned Chief of Shigu in Sagnarigu
The Registrar of Tamale Technical University (TaTU), Alhaji Yakubu Iddrisu, has been enskinned as the Chief of Shigu, a farming community in the Sagnarigu Municipality in the Northern Region.
His enskinment was carried out by the Paramount Chief of the Sagnarigu Traditional Area, Sagnar Naa Ambassador Yakubu Abdulai, in a colourful and culturally significant ceremony on June 2, 2025.
He was bestowed with the title "Shi-Naa", signifying his new role as the traditional leader of the Shigu community.
Prior to his enskinment, Naa Ambassador Yakubu Abdulai officially conferred the title of Sagnarigu Shi-Naa upon Alhaji Yakubu Iddrisu, marking his endorsement and approval for the new chief after the position became vacant.
In his acceptance speech, the newly enskinned Shi-Naa expressed gratitude to the people of Shigu and the Sagnarigu Traditional Council for the honour and pledged to work tirelessly in the interest of the community.
“During my reign as Shigu Naa, I will work with chiefs, elders, religious leaders, women’s groups, and youth organisations to ensure peace, harmony and development in the area,” he said.
He called on all residents of the Shigu Traditional Area to contribute in their own way towards making the community attractive to investors and development partners.
Shi-Naa Alhaji Yakubu Iddrisu also pledged open and inclusive leadership, stating, “My doors shall remain open to all, and I will lead without discrimination in the discharge of my traditional duties.”
He acknowledged and thanked the staff and students of the Tamale Technical University for their presence and support during the coronation ceremony. In turn, they assured him of their continuous support to help achieve his vision for the community.
Background
Alhaji Yakubu Iddrisu brings a wealth of academic and professional experience to his new role.
These include obtaining a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Ghana (UG); MSc in Organisational Development, University for Development Studies (UDS); Postgraduate Diploma in Organisational Development, University of Cape Coast (UCC); Bachelor of Arts (BA), University of Ghana and GCE A’ Level, Tamale Secondary School.
He is also a member of several professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants, Ghana; Chartered Professional Administrator (ChPA) and Executive Mastery in Organisational Development and Appreciative Leadership (EMOD).
Alhaji Yakubu Iddrisu is the longest-serving Registrar of the Tamale Technical University, and his enskinment as Shi-Naa is expected to bring together traditional leadership and modern administrative experience for the benefit of the Shigu community.
