Ghana Energy Awards Secretariat, Energy Ministry to deepen collaboration
Members of the Ghana Energy Awards (GEA) and the awards panel have called on the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, to deepen the collaboration between the two institutions.
Key among the deliberations were how the awards could help illuminate gaps, encourage sector-wide dialogue, and promote investments, particularly at a time when the energy landscape of Ghana is expanding to include green transition.
The partnership between the Ministry and the GEA is a nine-year relationship which focused on promoting excellence and innovation in the energy sector of the country.
Assessment
A panel member of the GEA, Kwame Jantuah, who led the team, mentioned the vital role played by the awards in supporting a robust and resilient energy sector:
“The energy sector needs independent institutions such as the Ghana Energy Awards to assess the performance of players and help keep the sector on track,” he said, and added that the initiative was bolstered by the support of the Ministry.
Mr Jantuah said the World Energy Council Ghana’s carefully selected themes and a rigorous, transparent awarding process validated by Forvis Mazars and Casely Brooke Law Firm, was to ensure that the sector institutions aligned with global benchmarks.
The Event Director at the GEA Secretariat, Henry Teinor, also expressed gratitude to the ministry for its continued support and longstanding partnership.
“We value this partnership deeply. It extends beyond the awards night and it reflects our continuous engagement and consultative approach throughout the year,” Mr Teinor added.
Appreciation
The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, thanked the team for the visit and support to the ministry.
“I thank you for your words of encouragement. We need all the support from you. We looked at the financials again this morning. There is a mounting debt of over US$ 3 billion in the sector.
“We look forward to working with you and partnering you so we can bring all the efficiencies to the sector. I assure you of my maximum support and that of the ministry. You can count on us any day,” he gave an assurance.
The GEA team included a former Board Chairman of the Energy Commission, Dr Kwame Ampofo, and a former Technical Director for Media and Strategic Communications at the Office of the former President, Dr Jemima Nunoo.
