Harmonious collaboration between Clergy, laity key — Methodist Bishop
A harmonious collaboration between the Clergy and the laity is essential to the holistic development of the Christian community, the Immediate Past Bishop of the Northern Accra Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rt Rev. Prof. Joseph M.Y. Edusa-Eyison, has said.
In addition, he said, it was also key for the men, women, the youth to work together for the accelerated expansion and qualitative growth of the Church, as no single group could do it alone.
Rt Rev. Edusa-Eyison made the call at the Third Prof. K.E. de Graft-Johnson Memorial Lectures, organised by the Airport East Circuit of the Methodist Church Ghana at the Immanuel Methodist Chapel, Regimanuel Gray Estate over the weekend.
Week
The event formed part of the Annual Men’s Week celebration of the Methodist Church Ghana.
Rt Rev. Edusa-Eyison said the primary responsibility of Christians was to ‘intertwine with undivided attention and enthusiasm, with each fulfilling their distinct yet complementary roles’ for positive impact.
He expressed appreciation to the Airport East Men’s Fellowship for honouring the late Prof. de Graft-Johnson, whom he described as a doyen in Christendom and academia.
The Special Guest for the lecture, Very Rev. Dr Jacob W. French, Immediate Past Superintendent Minister of the Airport East Circuit, said the late Prof. de Graft-Johnson, was an ecumenical Christian who dedicated his life to the service of God and humanity right from the beginning to the very last breath of his life of over 90 years.
Vision
The Superintendent Minister of the Airport East Circuit of the Methodist Church Ghana, Very Rev. Helena Opoku-Sarkodie, who was the Chairperson for the lecture, disclosed that the late Prof. de Graft-Johnson was the one who shared a vision of planting the Immanuel Methodist Society about three decades ago with his colleagues when it was a Bible Class of worshippers at the Calvary Methodist Church for those who lived in the Airport Residential Area and its environs.
The Chairman of the Airport East Circuit of the Men’s Fellowship, Prof. Kwame Asamoah, said the idea of instituting the K.E de Graft-Johnson annual memorial lectures was to honour a personality who devoted his life to the work of God, and most importantly, to the Men’s Fellowship as its founding member and first Chairman of the Immanuel branch Fellowship.
The lecture was on the theme: Discipleship: Growing into Christian Maturity- Men of the Church.
Speaking on behalf of the de-Graft-Johnson family, Amoako de Graft-Johnson praised the organisers for the honour done to the late professor and the family and expressed the hope that the legacy of the late Prof. de Graft-Johnson would continue to be worth emulating by others.
