He made the statement during an inspection tour of the second phase of the Homowo clean-up campaign last Saturday, which covered Makola, Tudu, Rawlings Park, CMB, and the central business district of Accra.

“I have a firm belief that Accra will rise and shine again,” he said, adding that “cleanliness is next to godliness.” The five-hour exercise was led by a dedicated team of Asafoatsemei, Asafoanyemei and environmental health officers, who form the special task force of the clean-up campaign, and waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Jospong Group of Companies.

Zoomlion provided the necessary resources, including garbage trucks, personnel and equipment.

“It's a pleasure to walk on these streets, knowing they're now safe and clean," he remarked, beaming with delight as he addressed participants during the exercise.

The Ga Mantse gave an assurance that the exercise would be sustained beyond the Homowo festivities, vowing to continue the clean-up efforts and lead by example in the Homowo clean-up initiative.

"We will ensure that this exercise goes beyond the Homowo celebrations and becomes a regular feature in our community," he said. He, however, cautioned that the special task force would patrol the streets and communities to ensure the city remained clean.

"Those who will be found flouting the sanitation by-laws will be dragged to the sanitation court and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent," Nii Teiko Tsuru stressed.

The Ga Mantse also advised the public to ensure that "we all play our part as citizens to ensure peaceful, free, and fair polls on December 7". The Chief Operating Officer of the Environment and Sanitation Cluster of Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), Florence Larbi, and the Chief Corporate Communication Officer of JGC, Sophia Kudjordi, participated in the exercise.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Armed Forces provided security and enforced compliance during the clean-up exercise.

The clean-up team thoroughly worked on the streets and surroundings within the central business district of Accra. The Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs of Zoomlion, Emma Adwoa Appiaa Osei-Duah, encouraged traders, hawkers, and shop owners to take active part in the exercise for their own health and safety.

She said insanitary conditions brought about diseases that could affect the traders themselves and those who patronised their goods and services. Ms Osei-Duah urged the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies to enforce the sanitation by-laws to ensure cleanliness in Accra.

The success of the exercise, she said, was a testament to the power of community spirit and collective action, inspiring a cleaner and healthier Accra for all.
