Job seekers must build professional relationships — HR consultant
A human Resource Consultant, Kwesi Ohemeng-Adjei, has charged job seekers to build networks and professional relationships even as they prepare for the job market.
That, he said, was because such relationships could strategically open doors for job seekers.
Mr Ohemeng-Adjei, who was addressing a day’s conference for job seekers at last Saturday in Accra, also advised job seekers to prepare for interviews just like they prepared for examination.
He further advised job seekers to use about a month to learn continuously about the sector they intended to work, and also make very good use of the websites of the intended institutions.
The conference was organised by GHP Services Limited, a recruitment agency, with support from MTN mobile money, KLM, Modern Floors and Tiles Services and Enquiry Agency, a career guidance organisation.
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Touching on how to write a Curriculum Vitae (CV), Mr Ohemeng-Adjei, who spoke on the topic: “Preparing for the job market,” said job seekers must ensure that their CV suits the jobs they require.
He said such CVs must stand out and highlight the applicants’ achievements in other prior engagements.
Speaking on the topic: “Excelling in the workplace,” the President of World Technology Forum, Dr Ohene Asante, advised young job seekers to be Godfearing and diligent in all they do.
Dr Asante said: “Who you know can get you the job but what you know will keep you at the workplace or not.”
To that end, he advised job seekers to be disciplined at all times and apply wisdom as well as the knowledge they had acquired in all their deliberations.
“As job seekers, your competence is your winning power and so build your technical expertise and competence,” Dr Asante stressed.
Mental health
A Counsellor and Psychotherapist, Rev. Dr Flossie Budu-Frimpong, for her part, stressed the need for young job seekers to stay focused if they are to meet their aspirations.
Dr Budu-Frimpong, who also spoke on “Mental health, well-being and self-care,” told job seekers to be mentally ready for the jobs they sought.
She also advised them to manage their time properly and build their self-esteem.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GHP Services Limited and Convener of the conference, Maame Safoah Bamfo, in a brief remark, advised the participants to work diligently wherever they found themselves.
She said that was the only way they could get the required results.
