Kwahuhene woos investors

The Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, has made a compelling case for investment in the traditional area, which is fast growing to become a preferred tourism destination in the Eastern Region.

He explained that the traditional area’s diverse topography—featuring prominent escarpments, waterfalls, striking rock formations, and the renowned Buruku inselberg—offered significant investment opportunities, underscoring the need to attract more investors.

He made the call when he launched an insurance policy for supporters of Okwawu United.

Policy

The policy, which was facilitated with the support of the Kwahuhene, will ensure that NSIA Insurance Company provides financial protection against unforeseen events and expenses that may occur in the course of travelling to support the team.

It covers fans in cases of motor accidents or other tragic incidents at sporting venues.

The development comes after the demise of a local sports journalist in Nkawkaw and a supporter of Okwawu United who travelled to watch and support the team at an away game and was involved in an accident on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.

Congress

The policy was launched at the supporters’ congress, where a five-member committee’s proposals were reviewed and adopted.

Under the new structure, supporters’ groups will now be called mountains.

The adoption of the constitution forms part of broader efforts by the club, which has been out of the Ghana Premier League since 2006, with a determination to return to the 2025/26 season.

Daasebere Akuamoah Boateng III said the gesture would not only boost the morale of supporters but also encourage the team to give out its best.

He called on benevolent institutions and businessmen and women in the region to support Okwawu United to regain its past glory.

“I appeal to all natives of Kwahu and stakeholders alike to help raise an additional GH¢1 million to strengthen the squad and improve operations ahead of the new strategic plan to bring us back to glory,” he said, assuring the club of his continuous support.

Gratitude

The General Manager of Okwawu United, Nana Kwame Dankwa, commended the Chief for the gesture, saying it would go a long way to encourage the team.

“We thank Daasebere Akuamoah Boateng III for his concern and love for Okwawu United that he has extended this goodness to the fan base.

“The supporters are the backbone of the team, and they have been doing so much for the team, travelling and following the team anywhere we go, even for friendly matches,” he added.

He further called on the National Sports Authority (NSA) to resolve outstanding issues with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi to ensure that the stalled Nkawkaw Sports Stadium project continues.
