The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has called on Africans to embrace Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s values of self-reliance and selflessness for the continent to prosper.
He made this call during the launch of the 2025 edition of Nkrumahfest last Saturday, in Accra.
Mr Buah emphasised that all Africans needed to return to Dr Nkrumah’s values to transform the continent.
“Let us unite under Nkrumah’s values of selflessness and self-reliance.
We need to keep believing in the values of Osagyefo and the vision of an Africa that is united, self-reliant, and respected globally,” Mr Buah declared.
He also stressed that Africa could only achieve true freedom by valuing and developing its resources as Dr Nkumah envisioned.
“We must complete the work he started. Then we can return with fire in our bellies to complete his work and love in our hearts for this Africa that he envisioned,” the minister added.
Mr Buah further described Dr Nkrumah not only as Ghana’s founding father but also as an enduring symbol of African dignity.
“Nkrumah’s Africa is still booming. It is still being born and as long as we remember him, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and his legacy are not gone,” he stated.
Launch
For her part, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, jointly launched this year’s edition of NkrumahFest with the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.
On the theme, “Celebrating Nkrumah’s Enduring Impact”, the festival will commemorate the legacy of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, with a symbolic pilgrimage to his birthplace, Nkroful, in the Western Region.
The event, which will be a week-long national and Pan-African celebration of Dr Nkrumah’s 116th birthday, will commence on September 20.
Ms Gomashie called on Africans across the globe to see the journey not just as travel, but as a cultural duty.
She also pledged her ministry’s full support for the pilgrimage to Nkroful and throughout the festival.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic after the event, she explained that the celebration aligned with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for a unified African identity through the Black Star Experience initiative.
“It is my responsibility to give life to what His Excellency envisioned when he called on all Africans and diasporans to rally around the Black Star that Nkrumah gave us,” the minister said.
The launch drew chiefs, diasporans, academics, and culture enthusiasts from Ghana and abroad.
