The items valued at GH¢130,000 and which included 18 table top refrigerators, 14 television sets, and seven gas cookers, was the MCE’s pledge towards this year’s celebration which will be on the theme: “Anything worth doing is worth appreciating.”

The Manya Krobo Municipality has a total enrolment of 17,000 learners at the basic school level and 10,000 students at the senior high level, bringing the overall population of learners to 27,000, with a teaching staff of 894 for the basic schools and 532 for the senior high schools. Non-teaching staff for the senior high schools stands at 198.

Presenting the items to the Municipal Director of Education, Samuel Kwesi Tettey, at Odumase-Krobo last Wednesday, Mr Tetteh, who is also the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for the 2024 elections, said he valued the work of teachers so much that there was no way he could not contribute towards the celebration of the teacher prize ceremony in the municipality.

The Lower Manya Krobo MCE who is also a teacher by profession, said, “I am a teacher by profession and I know what goes into teaching and therefore whatever concerns teachers I am sensitive to it. It is based on this that I promised during the launch of the programme last May that I will support with the items I have brought today.

It is not what I have decided to bring but the request from the directorate which will make the celebration and the ceremony very colourful.”

He said since he became the MCE, he had supported the education directorate in many ways, including the supply of furniture, construction of new classroom blocks, replacement of blackboards with marker boards and other teaching learning materials among others, which were the government’s intention to improve quality education delivery in the municipality.

Effective teaching

He expressed hope that the teacher prize programme which was initiated by him and the municipal directorate was going to encourage, exhibit the professional skills and above all bring competition among the teachers in the municipality, which would also go a long way to improve effective teaching and learning in Lower Manya Krobo municipality in totality.

Mr Tettey who received the items on behalf of the education directorate, was very grateful to the MCE. He said he was hopeful that the MCE and for that matter the government, would continue to support the education directorate to enable them train the learners to take over the mantle of leadership in future.

He tasked the teachers to take a cue from the MCE who is also a teacher and work hard to promote quality teaching and learning.
