Old Mawuli students support alma mater
Members of the 1994-96 year group of the Old Mawuli Students Union (OMSU) have built a 20-seater modern toilet for their alma mater.
“This legacy project was executed through the collective efforts of our members in Ghana and the Diaspora,” said the President of the group, Thomas Fianu, as he handed over the keys to the GH¢262,000 facility to the headmaster, Benjamin Dei, on the campus on Friday (October 24).
The handover ceremony took place during the just-ended 75th anniversary celebration of the school.
Gesture
The president of the year group said the gesture was to give back meaningfully to the institution that shaped the lives of its members, and leave behind a legacy that would serve future generations of Mawuli School.
Mr Fianu said the structure symbolised the bond of unity among members of the year group and their commitment to the well-being of the school.
“We believe it will go a long way to improve hygiene and sanitation on the campus and enhance the well-being of the students,” he added.
Mr Fianu urged members of the 1994-96 OMSU year group to continue to support their alma mater in various ways to maintain its sterling image, saying serving one’s alma mater was definitely service to God.
The leader of the North America branch of the year-group, Frank Sowu, said by its proximity to the football field, the unisex facility would be useful during sports events on the campus.
Culture of maintenance
Receiving the keys, Mr Dei expressed gratitude for the gesture, which he described as touching and overwhelming.
He gave an assurance that the facility would be handled with a strict culture of maintenance.
