Perform well in BECE for SHS sponsorship - Deputy Finance Minister to Asuogyaman BECE candidates

The Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has urged this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in his constituency to pass their examination well so that he caters for them at the senior high school (SHS) level.

“I have come again as usual to encourage you as you begin this year’s BECE. I want all of you to do away with any fears you might have in your mind.

The examination you are about to write is the same as what you have been writing in your various schools at the end of every term; hence, there is no need for any fear,” Mr Ampem Nyarko encouraged the pupils.

The Deputy Finance Minister said these in his interaction with the BECE candidates at the seven centres in his constituency at the beginning of this year’s BECE last Wednesday.

In all, 1,943 candidates, made up of 985 boys and 958 girls from 52 public and 24 private schools, are writing the examinations.

Examination malpractices

The MP said any examination malpractice would bring about disgrace to him as their MP, their teachers, parents, pastors and above all the candidates themselves and, therefore, pleaded with them to write the examination devoid of any incident.

Mr Ampem Nyarko assured the candidates that he would take full responsibility for providing everything in the prospectus for candidates who obtained single digits from aggregates six to nine, to lift the burdens off their parents and guardians.

“Your responsibility now is how to write the examination and pass well and shift your parents and guardians’ responsibility on me. Who will make us proud by getting a single digit?” he challenged them.

The MP also assured them of providing one hot meal per day for the five days of the BECE, a responsibility he has taken upon himself since 2017, to make them comfortable during the examination period, adding, “All these efforts are geared towards your comfort for the period of your examination.”

The Asuogyaman District Director of Education, Augustina Adjoa Owusu, in her goodwill message, said the examination marked a significant milestone in their education and, therefore, advised them not to enter the rooms with any foreign materials that would go against the rules and regulations of the examination.

stay focused

She asked the candidates to stay focused, conduct themselves with discipline and integrity and trust in what they had prepared for.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Godwin Bobobee, also urged the candidates to do their best and the assembly would help those who would perform well in the examination when they were ready to enter SHS.

A candidate from the New Akrade Presbyterian Junior High School, Bluna Mawuena, who spoke with the Daily Graphic, was confident that she was going to make a single digit to enjoy the benefits from the MP for her to enter SHS.
