Police rescue kidnap victim
The police have rescued a kidnap victim, retrieved a portion of a GH¢100,000 ransom demanded for his release, and arrested three of four suspects in a dramatic end to a five-day stand-off that happened in the Northern Region.
One more suspect believed to have sustained gunshot wounds is, however, believed to be on the run.
According to a police report, a case of kidnapping was reported in Tamale on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, with the suspects said to have demanded GH¢100,000 from the victim’s family as a condition for his release.
It said the Northern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Wisdom Lavoe, deployed a team of five intelligence officers from the Tamale Regional Police Intelligence Department to proceed to Wapuli in the Yendi District to lay surveillance, rescue the victim, and apprehend the suspects.
Last Friday, three days after the report of the kidnapping, the victim was successfully rescued through the efforts of the intel team.
The rescue team then set off in pursuit of the suspects, and upon catching up with them around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, engaged in an exchange of fire with the suspects, who were believed to be about four.
During the exchange of fire, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning one motorbike with registration plate M-25-NR and a Samsung phone.
The items were retrieved as exhibits and conveyed to the Yendi Divisional Police Headquarters.
Later, around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, the Intel team tracked down the suspects at Bokpaba, a village along the Bimbila-Yendi stretch, and apprehended three individuals, namely Haruna Seidu, 31; Amidu Bandi, 30; and Osman Bandi, 40.
All three are reportedly being held at the Yendi Police Station.
Two more motorbikes, one of them with registration number M-25-GB 1026, the other unregistered, and a cash amount of GH¢70,000, believed to be part of the ransom paid before the victim’s release, were also retrieved.
Meanwhile, the police have described the suspect on the run as “armed and dangerous”, with the Intel team said to be actively pursuing him to effect his arrest.
