Policeman launches books on investigations, rights of suspects
Two books, which deal with best practices in criminal investigations and the rights of suspects, have been launched at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

The books, titled “Practical Guide on Criminal Investigations”, and "Know Your Rights as a Suspect”, were authored by Detective Sergeant Modestus Amevor, a criminal investigator with the Ghana Police Service.
The “Practical Guide on Criminal Investigations” is a resource material for the police and other players in the criminal justice system as it delves into all critical aspects of criminal investigations while providing essential information on charge sheets, tips on taking statements, certifications, drafting brief facts, disclosures and situational reports, with samples on all such areas.
Detective Sergeant Amevor also used practical case studies to demonstrate to readers how best to have practical knowledge of the topic treated in the book.
With regards to "Know Your Rights as a Suspect”, the author educates readers about the fundamental human rights of suspects who come into contact with the criminal justice system.
It focuses on the rights of suspects during arrest, the obligations of police officers, as well as how suspects could assert their rights.
Motivation
During the launch, Detective Sergeant Amevor, who is stationed at the Nsawam District Police Criminal Investigative Department, described the books as critical resource materials for police investigators and the entire criminal justice system.
“As a seasoned investigator, I have seen first-hand the importance of thorough and meticulous investigations in solving crimes and bringing perpetrators to book,” he said.

He said the books also sought to address the challenges some investigators encountered when embarking on investigations.
“This book is my attempt to share my knowledge and experience with others in the hope that it will help to improve the quality of criminal investigations,” he said.
He said he was motivated to write the books due to the information gap, with the ultimate aim of demystifying criminal investigations and educating not just the police and stakeholders in the criminal justice system, but the public as well.
Commendation
The Chairman for the launch, retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Dr Benjamin Agordzo (retd), commended Detective Sergeant Amevor for the books and urged the general public to patronise them to inform them about their rights.
“The public need to empower themselves with knowledge of the criminal justice system to help them protect their rights,” he said.
