Regional Minister appeals for expanded telecommunication service
The Upper West Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, has appealed to MTN, a mobile service provider in the country, to provide more service centres in the region and to widen its coverage.
He said currently, residents in some parts of the region, especially areas where the people were not engaged in any productive work, still did not have access to reception.

He called on the service providers to extend their services to such areas to enable them to also be part of the digital world and enjoy the benefits of mobile telephony.
He said since MTN was the leading mobile service provider in the region, it should improve on its service and coverage of the region.

Mr Yakubu made the appeal at this year’s Kobine Festival celebrated by people of the Lawra Traditional Area in the Upper West Region.
He commended MTN for their continuous support of the festival over the years and for providing assistance to the traditional council to have a successful festival.
He appealed to other corporate bodies to emulate the effort of MTN and also come on board to support the traditional council and contribute to the development of the area.
In his welcome address, the Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Area and Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, Naa Puowelle Karbo III, also expressed his appreciation to the company for always sponsoring the festival.

He said for a very long time, MTN had been the sole sponsor of the festival, which is a celebration to honour the gallant farmers of the area in anticipation of a good harvest.
He said the festival was a thanksgiving celebration to God and also to honour farmers for always feeding the people.
This year, MTN supported the festival with a cheque of GH¢15,000, air time and drinks.
The company also provided sound systems for the climax of the festival and organised a football gala amongst the communities within the Lawra Municipality.
