Taxi driver, 39, jailed for defiling minor
The Dansoman Circuit Court has jailed a 39-year-old taxi driver to 12 years’ imprisonment for defiling a 14-year-old girl in Accra.
The convict, Francis Ammisah, is said to have lured the minor with Coca-Cola.
After the act, Ammisah gave the victim GH¢2 and threatened her never to tell anybody.
The convict pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement when he made his first appearance in 2023 but was found guilty by the court presided over by Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit.
Facts
Per the facts before the court, the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector (C/Insp.) Christopher Wonder, said the victim usually spent the weekend with the complainant at Lapaz.
He added that on October 28, 2023 the victim woke up weak in the morning, and was struggling to sit.
“The complainant interrogated the victim about what was wrong with her and the victim told the complainant that Ammisah had been taking her into his red car regularly to a location at Mataheko where he mixed a white substance into a bottle of coke and gave it to her to drink after which he had sex with the victim.
“The convict, after the act, gave the victim GH¢2.00 and threatened her never to tell anybody else she will die,” the prosecutor told the court.
C/Insp Wonder further told the court that a complaint was lodged with the Odorkor Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit leading to the arrest of the convict.
Upon interrogation, the prosecutor said that the convict denied having sexual intercourse with the victim.
Subsequently, a police medical form was issued for the victim to be assessed.
A medical report was later issued and duly endorsed by a medical doctor.
The accused person, after investigations, was charged with the offence and arraigned for prosecution.
