Unclaimed baggage not for sale — Airport Company

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has urged the public to disregard social media posts suggesting the sale of lost or forgotten baggage at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

It said the company had no plans to undertake such an exercise and therefore advised the general public not to fall for the fraudulent news.

The Daily Graphic has observed that the deceptive post is largely circulating on Facebook advertising that unclaimed luggage will be sold for as low as GH¢ 32 per bag.

Not the first time

This post, the GACL stated, first emerged in October 2024, prompting management to issue a disclaimer to alert the public.

"Despite the warning, fraudsters have resumed similar deceptive tactics to mislead unsuspecting individuals.

“We have recently become aware of fresh attempts by these faceless individuals, once again using Facebook to deceive the unsuspecting public into paying a specific amount of money.

"Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) would like to emphatically reiterate that the post is completely false, and orchestrated to misinform and dupe the unsuspecting public, and should thus, be disregarded”, GACL said in a release.

Be vigilant

The company emphasised that all official announcements are disseminated solely through its verified social media channels insisting that it had never authorised any third party to communicate on its behalf.

GACL urged the public to remain vigilant, ignore unofficial posts about luggage sales, and report any suspicious activities as it is committed to protecting the public.
