UniMAC launches transformational 5-year strategic plan - Focus on infrastructural development, digital transformation
The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) has launched its first Corporate Strategic Plan to guide the institution’s academic growth, digital transformation and long-term development.
The document will serve as a roadmap for the university’s transformation over the next five years.
It seeks to strengthen teaching, research, innovation, infrastructure and governance in the university and position it as a leading centre for media, arts and communication education on the continent.
The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of UniMAC, Professor Eric Opoku Mensah, who launched the document, described it as a major milestone in the university’s history since the merger of its institutions in 2020.
The launch took place last Thursday at the university’s main campus in Accra and brought together management, staff, students and alumni of the university to witness and celebrate the milestone.
Vision
Prof. Mensah said the university’s vision was to become a first-rate institution pursuing excellence in research and professional education in communication and the creative arts for societal transformation.
He explained that the strategic plan was built on the university’s mission of delivering value-based and technology-driven education through collaboration among academics, students, industry professionals, entrepreneurs and the alumni network.
“The university’s core values of excellence, integrity, transparency, discipline, accountability and community relevance will guide the implementation of this plan,” he said.
Focus
Prof. Mensah indicated that the plan focused on academic excellence, curriculum innovation and experiential learning to ensure practical and industry-driven education.
“The university will also focus on infrastructural development, digital transformation and innovation through the construction of lecture halls, a multimedia hub, a university clinic and an e-learning centre,” he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor also said that the plan would centre on human resource development and management, with an emphasis on staff welfare, training and mental health support.
Prof. Mensah further stated that financial sustainability and resource mobilisation would be pursued through public-private partnerships, increased student enrolment and strategic business units for income generation.
“This plan also prioritises internationalisation and alumni relations to strengthen global partnerships, research collaborations and alumni engagement,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor said governance systems, administrative operations and service quality would also be improved to enhance accountability, efficiency and stakeholder satisfaction under this plan.
He added that the university expected to expand outreach programmes and corporate social responsibility activities.
Prof. Mensah stressed that the plan would also focus on institutional branding and reputation management to improve UniMAC’s visibility and global competitiveness.
He called on the management, students and alumni to support the implementation of the strategic plan to help position UniMAC as a globally competitive institution of higher learning.
Advancement
For his part, the Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, Prof. Wilberforce Sefakor Dzisah, said rapid technological advancement and artificial intelligence continued to transform higher education on the continent.
That, he said, made innovation and strategic planning essential for the university’s survival and relevance.
“This plan will position UniMAC to become academically excellent, technologically driven, financially sustainable and socially impactful,” he added.
Alumni groups and executives of the student body also congratulated the university’s management and the Strategic Planning committee on a successful launch and expressed the hope that the plans in the document would be effectively implemented for the university’s progress.
