World Vision opens office in Wa West

International non-governmental organisation, World Vision Ghana (WVG), last Wednesday, inaugurated a new office complex in Wechiau for its Wa Cluster Area Programme.

The office would manage WVG programmes in Wa East and West districts with the objective of strengthening its operations and enhancing service delivery to vulnerable children and families across the Upper West Region.

The new office is expected to serve as a strategic hub for implementing programmes that fight poverty, promote community participation, address inequalities, and eliminate child labour and sexual abuse.

Programmes

At the inauguration of the office, the Strategy and Integrated Programme Director of WVG, Joshua Baidoo, said the vision of the organisation was to see every child thrive in a just, caring and inclusive society.

Mr Baidoo said the establishment of the office was not “merely a symbol of our presence but a testament to our unwavering commitment to the people of Wa and its surrounding communities.”

He said the office would serve as a strategic hub for implementing programmes that address the unique needs of the region, namely: fighting poverty, fostering community participation, addressing inequalities, eliminating child labour and sexual abuse and ensuring that no child is left behind.

Mr Baidoo said that since the inception of the Wa West Area Programme in 2019, WVG had directly impacted the lives of more than 46,000 individuals through its various development initiatives.

In 2022, he said the operations were extended to Wa East, where more than 26,000 vulnerable children and their families are currently benefiting from key programmes such as the Livelihood Improvement and Family Empowerment (LIFE), Healthy Environment and Wellness (HEAL), and the Community Engagement and Sponsorship Plan (CESP).

WASH

He said in seven years, more districts within its operational areas would benefit from WVG’s Universal WASH Service Coverage, which aims to reach everyone, everywhere with safe water services by 2030.

As part of efforts to achieve this,he said the initiative would be integrated with other technical sectors, including livelihoods, food security, and education, to holistically support children and families across the country.

Regional Operations Manager for the Northern Sector, World Vision Ghana, Rexford Bugri Yamdore, called for a sustained partnership with the district assembly, churches, the Muslim community and all stakeholders, to ensure the long-term success of development programmes in the region.

“This partnership is what will sustain the progress we’ve made and help us reach more children and families in need,” he said.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wa West, Richard Wulo, said the opening of the offices marked a significant milestone in the organisation’s operations and symbolised its deep-rooted commitment to improving the lives of the people in the Wa West District.
