‘Ghanaians must be active in health promotion exercises’

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Mr Kwabena Nkansah-Asare, has stressed the need for Ghanaians to take active part in regular health promotion exercises including health walks to keep them healthy at all times.

He said the call had become imperative as most of the diseases that attacked mankind were caused by lack of exercises. 

Mr Nkansah-Asare made the call at Akyem Oda last weekend when he participated in a health walk jointly organised by the managements of Jubilee Hospital and Ofie 105.9 FM,  Oda-based private medical facility and radio station, respectively.

The health walk, solely sponsored by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jubilee Hospital, Mr Kennedy Opoku, attracted many dignitaries including the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Birim South, Mr Emmanuel   Kwakye, and the Krontihene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyereh. 

Mr Opoku, who provided meals, soft drinks and water for the over 500 participants, promised to make the exercise a regular activity. 

He advised the youth to eschew social vices and concentrate on their education, adding that they should refrain from drug abuse and alcoholism. 

The Krontihene praised the Jubilee Hospital and Ofie FM for organising the exercise and urged other well-to-do individuals and organisations to emulate the example.

The Manager of Ofie FM, Mr Kofi Ferguson, who described the exercise as very successful, commended Mr Opoku for his foresight and concern about the people in the area. 

In a friendly football match that climaxed the event Jubilee Hospital beat Ofie FM 1-0 to annex the silver cup donated by Mr Opoku.
