Six die,12 injured in accident at Biahu, WR
Six passengers perished while 12 others sustained injuries, some in critical condition, after a mini-bus rammed into a defective heavy-duty truck yesterday afternoon at Biahu in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region.
According to the police, the Man Diesel truck, with registration number GT 6620-B, was transporting sand toTakoradi for construction work in the metropolis.
The police said on reaching Biahu, the shaft of the truck got detached but the truck driver was able to safely drive it off the main road.

Mini bus
The police said before the driver’s mate could pick the detached part of the truck off the road, the mini-bus with registration number WR 1607-18, that was conveying passengers to Takoradi, emerged speeding towards the truck.
In an attempt by the mini-bus driver to avoid the detached part of the truck lying in the middle of the road, it rammed into the back of the stationary truck resulting in the casualties.
Before help came from an ambulance team and personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, the six had died.

The driver of the mini-bus, whose name was given as James Safo, survived the accident and he, together with the injured passengers, was sent to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Referral Hospital and the Kwesimintsim District Hospital both in the Sekondi/Takoradi and the Effia-Kwesimintsim municipality, respectively.
Eyewitness said the driver of the mini-bus was speeding and lost control of the vehicle when he came face-to-face with the vehicle part on the road.
The police and other members of the rescue team later cleared the Biahu-Agona highway to ease the flow of traffic.
