GIMPA Business School Board sworn into office

“The business sector in Ghana is so complex that it is difficult for businesses to grow. Students, therefore, need to be properly trained to understand how businesses operate,” he said.

Prof. Osei gave the charge at the inauguration of an advisory board for the GIMPA Business School in Accra last Wednesday.

The 13-member board, made up of top business executives and others from renowned organisations and institutions, is tasked to come up with ways to ensure that students from GIMPA acquire practical training that will make them employable.

The members include the Chief Operations Officer of Ghana Home Loans, Mr Kojo Addo-Kufuor; the Chief Executive Officer of Ernest Chemists Limited, Mr Ernest Bediako Sampong, and the CEO of Laine Services Limited, Mrs Ellen Hagan.

Prof. Osei said the growing unemployment rate among graduates in the country could be attributed to the failure of tertiary institutions to give students the practical aspect of education, stressing that graduates’ inability to understand the business environment had made them unemployable.

He said the advisory board was put together to create a research agenda that would focus on addressing the challenges bedevilling Ghanaian businesses.

GIMPA Business School

The Dean of the GIMPA Business School, Prof. Samuel Bonsu, said the school sought to redirect educational efforts to give students opportunities to understand business as it was practised.

Prof. Bonsu, who is also a member of the Business School Advisory Board, said the board would be responsible for advising the dean and the Business School management team on the strategic direction of the school.

He added that the members of the board were accomplished persons, each in his or her own right.

“They have walked the talk and understand the intricate details of what makes a well-trained business graduate,” he said.
