The items included bags of rice, maize, gari and beans, gallons of cooking oil, sanitary products, yam, fish, used clothing and baby wear for a pregnant inmate.

Presenting the items, Mrs Euphemia Gifty Agbavitor, the Presbytery Leader, said members were touched by the plight of their compatriots who had found themselves at the wrong side of the law.

She said as Christian women, they were enjoined  by the Bible  to care for the needy, the less privileged and especially those in prison.

Assistant Superintendent of Prison (ASP) Judith Okyere,  who received the items, thanked the group for its show of love to the inmates.

“Apart from the physical food,  we very much appreciate the spiritual one which goes a very long way to reform them. If they are not reformed at the end of the day,  they will return to society to commit the same crimes or even worse ones,” she said.

Rev Edith Adoblosu-Kuhlor, the National Coordinator of the Women’s Ministry of the Global Evangelical Church, in a brief sermon, encouraged the inmates to not give up on life but keep their dreams and aspirations high.

She recalled the story of Joseph, who was imprisoned for no crime committed and forgotten by men, noting that in God’s own time He remembered Joseph and promoted him.

Special prayers were said for both the prison officers and inmates, some of whom readily accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
