Fire Service hunting for suspect who stabbed firefighter during Adjiringano blaze on Friday night

The police are on a manhunt for a suspect who stabbed a firefighter from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) during efforts to contain a fire that ravaged an eight-room, one-storey building at Adjiringano near Ability Square in Greater Accra on Friday night.

Two firefighters got injured in the process.

One of the firemen was stabbed by the suspect, who wanted to enter the burning building to loot, but the fireman prevented him from doing so.

The Fire Service has announced a reward for anyone who can help identify or locate the attacker.

According to the GNFS, the fire call was received at 9:32 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025.

The first appliance from the Legon Fire Station arrived at the scene at 10:03 p.m., with reinforcements from the Madina, National Headquarters, and Adenta Fire Stations, as well as support from a private water tanker. The combined efforts ensured a stable water supply to battle the blaze.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at 12:16 a.m. and fully extinguished it by 1:08 a.m.

Seven out of eight rooms on the top floor were destroyed, but one room was salvaged.

The fire crew also prevented the flames from spreading to the ground-floor rooms and neighbouring structures.

Two firefighters sustained injuries, one from a stab wound to the left arm inflicted by the suspect, and another from a falling block that hit his left shoulder. Both were treated and discharged from Unity Clinic in Madina.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
