“Capacity building in every organisation motivates employees, and demonstrates how much they are cherished by the employer to reach enviable levels,” she said.

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare made the call at the 2015 Ghana Tourism Authority Staff Recognition and Awards (GTASRA) event in Accra.

It was on the theme: “Our Staff: An essential part of Ghana Tourism Authority, Revitalising for Efficiency and Growth.”

The GTASRA was to showcase the work output of employees of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in 2015, as well as show appreciation for it and motivate the staff to work harder.

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare said the ministry would soon be rolling out a programme to build its human capacity.

She thanked the employees of GTA for their services that had helped to uplift the tourism sector and applauded the authority for being a pacesetter in the area of staff motivation.

“I, therefore, challenge other agencies under the ministry to emulate this example and organise similar events,” she urged.

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare entreated the workforce to be punctual to work and avoid loitering during working hours.

“I appreciate hard work because that makes the business of tourism tick in both regular and challenging times. The award winners should, therefore, hold their heads up,” the minister said.

Awardees

Twenty-four employees were awarded in competitive and special categories.

For the competitive category, 11 regional officers and 10 officers from the various head office departments were rewarded for their meritorious services to the tourism sector in 2015.

Under the special award category, the acting Western Regional Manager of GTA, Mr Michael Kpingbi, was adjudged the Best Regional Manager for 2015, while Quality Assurance Manager, Mr Alex Boakye, was adjudged Head Office Manager of the Year.

A watchman, Mr Seidu Kardo, was awarded for his punctuality to work and judicious use of working hours.

In addition to his award, the minister promised to share her February salary with Mr Kardo, a temporary staff member.

“This month, I will be sharing my salary equally with Mr Kardo for his punctuality and adhering to working hours,” Mrs Oforsu-Adjare promised.
