Guinean President, Prof. Alpha Conde, has advocated a 'knowledge revolution' in Africa to extricate the continent from the economic challenges facing it.

He said it was a source of concern that even though Africa had attained political independence, it was yet to become economically independent.

Addressing workers of the Volta River Authority (VRA) after touring the Akosombo hydroelectric facility last Thursday, he paid tribute to Dr Kwame Nkrumah for the visionary leadership he carried not only in Ghana but deep into the continent.

He said had Africa bought into the late President's idea of a united Africa, much of the economic and other problems confronting the continent could have been abated.

Prof. Conde, who is on a three-day state visit to Ghana, was led to the project site by his host, President John Dramani Mahama.

Impressed with project

Prof. Conde, who was the guest of honour at the independence anniversary parade on Thursday, said he was impressed with the huge facility put up by Dr Nkrumah few years after he became the president of Ghana.

President Mahama

President Mahama, for his part, said Ghana and Guinea had long standing cordial relations which continued to blossom.

He said his invitation to the Guinean President was due to the friendly relations between the two countries.

President Mahama told his guest that the hydroelectric facility was managed wholly by Ghanaians.

He said Ghana would continue to make its expertise in the energy sector available to the rest of Africa.

He said Guinea had potential in hydroelectric power generation and told the workers that very soon, Guinea would tap the experience of Ghanaian expertise in the energy sector.

Mr Mahama told the workers to give Guinea the cooperation when their officials made the approach.
