HFFG wins international award

A project on “Comprehensive Abortion Care” (CAC) undertaken by Hope For Future Generations (HFFG), a local non-governmental organisation with a focus on women and children, has won the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA) Grundtvig Award 2015 in the International Projects category.

The CAC project seeks to reduce the incidence of unsafe abortion practices among young women between the ages of 10 and 24, by advocating and promoting comprehensive abortion care to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity in Ghana by 2020.

The EAEA Grundtvig Award was launched in 2003 to recognise and celebrate excellence in adult education and it is given to an organisation or project consortium who present the best transnational project in adult learning.

The award

The award highlights project results that produce new ideas, new partnerships, new methodologies and a new understanding and shows how adult learning can be worked on.

The HFFG award is a result of a paper written by Mrs Sandra Amankwah of HFFG on CAC.

The initiative supported by Ipas Ghana is in collaboration with queenmothers for their advocacy work and durbars for women, and is aimed at empowering women to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights.

The initiative uses queenmothers as intermediaries between HFFG and the community.

The HFFG Executive Director, Mrs Cecilia Senoo, and the Project Co-ordinator, Mrs Sandra Ameyaw Amankwaa, were in Porto, Portugal, to receive the award at a conference.

HFFG took the opportunity to present the CAC project to an audience of experts and stakeholders in the field of adult education and health.

The conference was attended by over 100 representatives from EAEA member countries and partners in Europe.

Hope for Future Generations (HFFG) was awarded the Grundtvig Award for excellence in adult education and health in the category of international projects, and Karntner Volkshochschulen from Austria was awarded the European National Grundtvig Award.

The award ceremony was held at the CASA da Musica Hall in Porto, Portugal, and the awards were presented by the EAEA President, Mr Per Paludan Hansen, and the Mayor of Porto, Mr Rui de Carvalho de Araújo Moreira.
