I am under pressure but... - Attorney-General
Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has admitted facing intense pressure—not from political forces, but from ordinary Ghanaians demanding accountability for the misuse of state resources.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, 24th March, Dr Ayine revealed that citizens were calling for swift action against individuals who had misappropriated public funds, creating political and social tension.
“I am under pressure not from political quarters but from ordinary Ghanaians,” he stated, emphasising that the demand stemmed from a national desire for transparency and justice.
‘Operation Recover All Loot’ underway
The press conference was held to provide updates on the arrest of two former New Patriotic Party (NPP) appointees as part of the government’s "Operation Recover All Loot" (ORAL) initiative.
Dr Ayine reassured the public that his office remained committed to handling these cases with diligence and legal precision, rather than rushing investigations for political gain.
Criticism of past legal missteps
Contrasting his approach with that of previous Attorneys General, Dr Ayine criticised those who pursued prosecutions hastily without solid evidence.
“If you are under pressure, you go to court and then you now come back to look for evidence like some other Attorneys General did in the past and subsequently were calling a witness to help him, you know, make up his case. I won’t do that at all,” he asserted.
He added that he was working closely with his deputy to methodically build cases against those suspected of financial misconduct, ensuring that prosecutions were based on credible and substantial evidence.
