Although this has been part of the Kwahu Easter festivities for years, 2016 has seen a major upscale in the construction of residential and hotel facilities.

Obomeng, Mpraeso, Bepong, Obo, Abetifi, Nkwatia and Pepease are dotted with structures of different styles and shapes.

At Nkwatia, a new police station constructed by the Nkwatia Development Foundation is expected to be inaugurated on Holy Saturday. The police station is made up of male, female and juvenile cells, an armoury and various offices and will replace the old structure which is in a bad state.

According to Mr Thomas Yeboah Wadie, a member of the Foundation, a number of facilities had been provided for the benefit of the people and one of such facilities is a borehole to ensure the flow of water.

At Mpraeso, a hospital will also be inaugurated.

This is in addition to free health screening exercises being sponsored by both governmental and non-governmental organisations.

Churches

In the midst of all the fundraising activities and entertainment, churches are also using the occasion to win souls for Christ through crusades since some of them see it as an opportunity to save the youth and prevent them from going astray.

A pastor, who wanted to remain anonymous, was of the view that most of the youth used the festival to engage in immoral acts and there was the need to bring them closer to Christ.

District assemblies

The three main assemblies namely, Kwahu West, Kwahu East and Kwahu South are expecting a windfall from revenue to be accrued from advertisers, hoteliers, traders and hawkers, among others.

According to the Kwahu West Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Kenneth Osman, much of the revenue to be generated in Nkawkaw, especially, would be used to support waste management because “Nkawkaw receives the residue of filth from the Kwahu Ridge.”
