‘Indiscipline, corruption cause of poverty in Ghana’

The newly appointed Ameer and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana, Alhaji Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, has attributed the poverty plaguing most Ghanaians to gross indiscipline and deep-seated corruption by some citizens, including the religious devout.

He said his administration would, therefore, not countenance any acts of indiscipline and engagement in corruption by members of the mission across the country.

"As religious people belonging to the Ahmadiyya Mission, I want you to eschew any form of indiscipline and corrupt practices and rather remain steadfast to your clarion call to serve Almighty Allah because whoever falls foul of my admonition will be sanctioned," he cautioned.

Conference

Addressing the 20th annual Western Regional conference of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Takoradi on Sunday, the Ameer observed that the bitterest enemy of the country today was corruption resulting from moral and religious degeneration.

The theme for the meeting was, "Obedience to Khalifat: The Key to Spiritual Development".

"If we do not remove indiscipline from our society and clamp down on corruption, there is no way this country will progress. In fact, if you adore, respect, love and accept me as your new Ameer, then I want you to co-operate with me in this direction," he told the participants.

Maulvi Salih, who replaced the late Maulvi Wahab Adam, asked Ahmadis to imbibe discipline, saying, "That will, indeed, show that you love and admire my new administration.”

He said if Ahmadis failed to be patriotic citizens and did not show the way, there would not be progress in the country, adding that some Ahmadis were responsible for the downward trend in the economy.

Disputes

The Chairman of the Western Regional Peace Council, Rev John Ernest Kofie, in a fraternal message, noted that although the region was enjoying relative peace, it was burdened with chieftaincy disputes.

Mr Elias Yusuf Kofi Gyampson, the Western Regional President and acting Regional Missionary, in his welcome address, said the first-ever rubber plantation of the mission at Anapa Nsu in the Sekondi Circuit would soon yield some benefits.
