Intercity STC MD to revamp company
The Managing Director of the Intercity State Transport Company (Intercity STC) Coaches Limited, Mr Samuel Nuamah Donkor, has pledged to transform the company into the leading transport establishment in the West Africa.

He said although the company had faced numerous challenges over the years, Intercity STC remained resolute in its effort to recapture the company’s lost clients in the transport business.
Outlining his vision in an interview with the Daily Graphic after taking over the leadership of the company, Mr Nuamah Donkor, a former Minister of Health and Ashanti Region, said the company had developed innovative packages and products to give its patrons quality services.
“Notwithstanding the challenges Intercity STC has gone through, I believe strongly that we can turn the tables and take back our position in the transport sector and the development of Ghana’s economy,” he said.
Arrival of new buses
Mr Nuamah Donkor said following the government’s decision to enhance the operations of Intercity STC, 50 buses would arrive in the country in the middle of July, this year.
The buses, he said, would be used to support the company’s fleet of buses, to improve the operations of the company.
“There will be long and short-distance buses that would be available to convey people to their destinations. We will make sure buses are provided on every street of the country to perform this task,” Mr Nuamah Donkor said.
He said the company was currently putting in place effective measures to get more buses from both local and foreign investors, adding that by the end of 2014, “our current fleet of buses would have tripled”.

Partnership with other institutions
According to Mr Nuamah Donkor, Intercity STC intends to partner institutions such as the Ghana Airport Company to ensure that passengers who arrive at the airport easily get access to transport.
“Most travellers find difficulties in getting access to transport when they arrive at various airports in the country. Our buses would be available to convey them to any distance of their choice,” he said.
In terms of the delivery of parcels, Mr Nuamah said Intercity STC would run an efficient parcel delivery service by working directly with motor riders.
“We will engage the services of motor riders in a way that every parcel we receive would be delivered by them in an easy and convenient manner. This way there will be constant work for the motor riders,” he said.
Training of drivers
Mr Nuamah Donkor also said since most of the accidents on the roads were due to the recklessness of some drivers, Intercity STC would train at least 100 drivers weekly.
“We will also work with other investors to bring in towing trucks that would be placed on various highways so that when the need arises, there would be assistance,” he added.
He added that since enforcement of road regulations was the major challenge in the country, the company would work with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to ensure that district assemblies put in place byelaws mandating transport owners to engage the services of Intercity STC when they had to remove broken-down vehicles.
Mr Nuamah Donkor, therefore, urged Ghanaians to have confidence in the company since it would not waver in its bid to ensure the smooth delivery of transport services in the country.
